Costs of bad sidewalk aesthetics
What does it matter what your walkways look like?
What does it matter what your car looks like..or your clothes, or hair? Where we live, like the cars we drive and the clothes we wear matter very much to how we feel about ourselves and how we feel emotionally.
For tenants, staff, and most importantly prospective tenants, your walkways are literally the first thing they touch on your property. Do unrepaired, or poorly grinded walkways keep people from renting or buying on your properties? Not by themselves, but they are a part of the feeling a property gives someone...and not surprisingly “curb appeal” makes more sense when you realize the curb and walkway are the first thing people step on.
So, yes the majority of us care about how the walkways look where we live, work, or consider living. What’s the cost of leaving our walkways unrepaired like the examples below? It is an emotional cost, that reduces our loyalty to a property, our satisfaction and pride in living or working there. It makes us feel like our environment is not important enough to merit repair and tends to create less of a social imperative to keep the area clean. Ask yourself...is it easier to litter in a run-down neighborhood or a well manicured one?
